Release Manager
Objective
HPCareers are currently assisting our highly reputable nationwide Creative Agency client in recruiting an experienced Release Manager to create, co-ordinate, verify and own the final release product or service to be rolled out to clients. To also ensure that all releases are clearly communicated and implemented successfully.
Responsibilities
- To lead on ensuring that all release packages are built, installed, tested and deployed efficiently to a target environment on schedule.
- Ensure all release packages are coordinated, tracked, installed, tested, verified, if necessary backed out of in an efficient and timely manner.
- To define and agree release plans with customers and stakeholders.
- To maintain and communicate the agency level release plan, coordinating resources, communicating requirements and resolving issues where necessary.
- Create and manage and document release units.
- Oversee release package acceptance and customer sign-off.
- Ensure that the integrity of a release package is maintained throughout its transition and recorded accurately
- Ensure that all activity defined within the process is adhered to and documented in line with compliance requirements
- Complete lessons learned session after each release, ensuring that all lessons learned are applied to the release process
- Review and constantly refine the agency release process ensuring that it adheres to any ISO requirements and constantly meets the needs of the agency
- Educate the agency on the release processes, ensuring that updates are communicated and embedded into agency behaviour
- Minimise unpredicted impact on production services and support activities.
- Ensure that organisation and stakeholder change is managed throughout.
- Record and manage deviations, risk and issues related to new or changed services
- Understand the interfaces between release management and other relevant service processes e.g. change management, incident management, service asset & configuration management
- Chair the weekly meetings and ensure that all release activity observes the change management process
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to define the release process
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the theory and practice of release management with a commitment to on-going learning about the field by having or to be studying towards a minimum ITIL foundation in release management
- Undertake any ad-hoc duties as required requested by your line manager of the Operations Director
Required Skills
- Strong technical background in information technology management; Process knowledge of System Development Life Cycles;
- Program and project management skills;
- Program languages and program scripts
- ITIL Foundation and Intermediate certificate in Service Transition or hold a BCS specialist certificate in Release Management or equivalent.
- Experience of web-based software specification, testing and rollout.
- Have either direct release management experience, or technical project management experience with a desire to convert to release management.
- Alternatively, you may be in a development management role currently.
- Higher education qualification in a computing based category
- 5 years minimum experience within the software/web development industry.
- Experience in development/project/release management involving a team of 10 or more people.
- Experience of working in an Enterprise/secure environment dealing with valuable/high quantities of data and services. For example, an internal business system with at least 1000 regular users.
